There are three separate mastermind topics being offered and all are offered locally and on line for those out of market or if you can’t make a meeting.  We will use a combination of conference line, Skype and webinars.  Each program includes a book and your study materials.

The Answer is Personality Style!

Ask these questions about people you interact with like your boss, spouse, or children.

  • Ever wonder why there are some people you just don’t seem to connect with?
  • Why is it when your boss/spouse/children say something to you very directly it hurts your feelings?
  • Has one of them ever done something repeatedly that just drives you batty?
  • Do you get your feathers ruffled around some people?
  • Are there some people you just love to be around because they are always so much fun?
  • Or maybe they are TOO chatty for you and you just want them to GET TO THE POINT?!
  • Do they need ALL the facts to make a decision?
  • She/he is NEVER on time and it really irritates you….or they change the schedule at the last minute and you just want to pull your hair out?

The answer to these questions is PERSONALITY STYLES.   There are so many versions out there – DISC – Fire, Wind, Water, Earth – Red, Blue, Yellow. Green –  Choleric, Sanguine, Melancholic, Phlegmatic – Lion, Otter, Golden Retriever, Beaver – Sharks, Dolphins, Whales, Sea Urchins – doesn’t matter what you call them – there are always four different personality styles you will fit in to.

As a life and business coach, I train on Personality Styles using the colors.  For sake of my blog, I will use colors, however, I have included a graphic  that indicates some of the other descriptions of personality types that go with each color.  You can be a mix of these but you will have a dominate style.  I am a Blue dominate (fun) but I have a very strong Red side (in control) – almost as equal.  In other words, I am in charge of my chaos which creates a challenge I have fun with!!   I have to work hard to find my Green side (factual/structured) or my Yellow side (quiet helper).

Most people are able to pull forth their secondary style in situations when needed.  You find you might be your natural dominate style around friends and family and then another style at work.  Over the next couple of weeks, I am going to break the styles down individually so that you can clearly understand each and begin to understand the answers to some of the questions above.

You will also learn how to recognize and work with each personality type.  By knowing this, you will know the strengths and weaknesses of each.  In short….your life is going to be SO much simpler once you clearly understand the concept of Personality Styles.  If you are in a leadership position at work, if you are in sales where you interact with many different people, this is a MUST MASTER subject for you!

Don’t miss one of these blogs as I unveil each Personality Style!

You will love how much simpler this makes your life!

What Does Your Energy Say About You?

What’s the first impression people get each time you walk in a room or get on a call?  I was on a conference call last week and my dear friend and business partner, Jenell, brought up the question “What does your energy say about you?”  It is a GREAT question and I thought it would be a great thing to write about!

We all do it.  We all have those little voices that speak to us immediately when we are summing up a situation or a person.  Someone walks in the room…. whether it’s in our office, a social gathering, or home… and their energy speaks to us.   Do the voices say “WOW! Get me closer to that person!” ….or do the voices ask “DO I want to know that person or be around them?” OR worst yet….do the little voices say “AVOID…AVOID…RUN AND HIDE!!”

I can think of several friends or acquaintances I have who just light up a room when they walk in.  I feel good when I am around them and I love associating with them.

There are two sides to the AVOID- AVOID energy.  There is the person who walks in and is the one you know to be SO negative about EVERYTHING…. You say “WOW, the sun is shining so bright” and they say “yeh, but it’s going to rain tomorrow”.   They delight in attempting to zap your energy.  The sad thing is, sometimes they don’t even know they are doing it.   Can’t they just say “yes, it is and I am going to enjoy every moment of it!!”?  The other side of AVOID-AVOID is the person who is SO obnoxious and in your face you want to hide from them.

Ask yourself these questions about 3 different scenarios – Office, Home, Social Gatherings – you might find they are different for all three when they shouldn’t be:

  • When I walk in to the room, do I walk in with confidence, standing tall with a smile on my face?
  • Do I walk in slumped down and slouchy or with a grumble on my face?  (Who wants to be around people who grumble and complain all the time?)
  • Does my body language send a strong message – opened or closed?
  • Do I stand with my arms crossed in front of me as a block?
  • Are my arms open and my smile genuine?
  • Do I send off the snob message “I am too good to be here with YOU!”?
  • Do I make connecting eye contact and let people know I hear them?
  • Do I look at people with that “what do you want now look” or “I don’t have time for you look”?
  • Do people feel open to come in to talk with me in my office or to approach me at a gathering?
  • Do I intimidate people and if so, what is it I am doing?
  • Do I always bring out the negative “what ifs”?
  • Do I bring the problems or the solutions to a conversation/meeting?

People follow leaders who are positive, inspiring and open.  If you are trying to lead a team – and your team could be your family members – you need to really ask yourself the questions above.  Better yet, ask those closest to you to answer these questions about you.  We don’t always see ourselves as others see us.

What does your energy say about you?  Can you share any stories of encounters with positive, neutral or negative energy people and how it affected you?  Are you the positive energy in the room or conversation or do you bring the negative to the table?

If this post has added value to you – made you take a deeper look at yourself – Please share it with your friends, family & followers!

What Choices Will You Make Today?

Today when you woke up you made a choice.  You  chose your attitude then you began to make a series of choices that guided your day. At this very moment, you made the choice to read my blog post.  I truly appreciate that. Today, I am going to share with you how I learned the real meaning of choice.

I hope that just one thing I share will add value to your life.  I truly understand the power of choice.  I’ve made some life altering ones  AND I’ve made some pretty stupid ones in my day.

I learned about choice at a very young age.  At only seventeen years old, I became very ill with a debilitating disease called ulcerative colitis.  Now let me tell you….Being a very active teenager did NOT mix well with that disease!!  I was a cheerleader, a model, and in every club imaginable.  Because of my illness I had to choose to give up cheerleading my Sr. year – tough choice.

I was really sick.  Do you know how tough it is for a pizza and soda addict to be told you can only eat mushy food and NO carbonated beverages?  You HAVE to…no, you GET to – because there really is no HAVE TO in life….you GET to learn about choice at that point!!  Do I eat this really yummy stuff and be doubled over in pain in the bathroom? ….and yes…..sometimes I made that stupid choice!!

Fast forward 2 years – I was in college, working for an ad agency and had just married my high school sweetheart…..we won’t discuss THAT choice!!  Six weeks after the wedding I was in the hospital having major surgery to remove my nearly ruptured colon.  For the next five months I fought for my life.  On the third major surgery,  my belly was packed with gauze and left open from stem to stern to heal from the inside out.  I had abscesses that poisoned my whole body, a deflated lung, blood clots, blockages and almost anything else you can imagine that could go wrong. I didn’t eat a solid bite of food for over four months and I had to learn to walk again due to muscle atrophy.  Two weeks after my six month wedding anniversary, I finally walked out of hospital….alive by choice.  At the young age of 19, I fully understood the meaning behind making positive daily choices.

A very wise chaplain visited me almost daily during that five months…Chaplain Bohannon…he’ll never know the difference he made in my life.  You see…. that one day I really thought I had no fight left in me…that day I thought I would choose to give up….he said TODAY you get to make a choice… you can choose to fight for your life and use the gifts and talents God has given you to add value to others….to make a difference in this world…..OR you can choose to give up….just die and take those gifts with you.  But IF you choose life…you’ll have to choose whether to wallow in self-pity for the changes in your body you will live with from now on… or you can choose to add value to others by sharing your faith, your courage and your positive attitude.

Fast forward almost 40 years….you know my choice on the live or die thing….I am here with you today…. and today, I am asking you to help make my choice to add value a reality.  CHOOSE to read my posts with an open mind and willingness to learn and grow.  Choose to post your comments and choose to share the blog posts www.followthiscoach.com with your friends and associates if you feel it will add value to them.

Has there been a time in your life or your business you made a difficult choice?

Hello World!

I have been contemplating writing a blog for some time now and the day has come! There is no better time than right now to start! Over the past year I have been studying with John Maxwell and his staff and have become a member of his speaking, training and coaching team – The John Maxwell Team.  In addition, I founded Brockman Enterprises, Inc. the first of this year.

Throughout my adult career, I have had the opportunity to train many people in personal development, sales and leadership through 12 years of owning a personal development school,  my years of corporate management and of leading a national health and wellness marketer team.  I have had the opportunity to grace the stage at many local and national events to share inspiration on many different topics. It has been a life long dream of mine to become a nationally known, powerful, motivational speaker who adds value and makes a difference in the lives of others….being a part of The John Maxwell Team has given me the perfect channel to do just that! John’s materials are geared toward helping people grow as leaders and that is one of the things I love best.

I have spent my life coaching and mentoring others and now, as a Certified Speaker, Trainer, Coach for the John Maxwell Team, I have officially hung my shingle as a professional life coach. I am offering Mastermind Group studies, individual and team coaching, corporate training and motivational speaking….so pass the word to all you know who could use my services.

Please come back to visit my blog often….or better yet, click the link to be notified by email when new posts are added.  My goal is to update it two times weekly on Monday and Thursday. I will blog about personal thoughts & experiences, professional development, leadership, making choices and more and I promise to inspire and motivate you to grow as an individual and as a leader in life….and because I like to have fun – I will add some humor where appropriate!

Thanks for sharing your time with me – come back again on Monday’s and Thursday ‘s to see what’s new…My next blog will tell you a little more of my story and help you understand why I do what I do.  Don’t forget to share my blog site with your friends and business associates…..just remember: FollowThisCoach.com will get you there!

Make it an amazing rest of the day!!
